During
stripping and handling of fiber ends, often bits
of fiber are broken off. These fiber shards are
very sharp, and can easily penetrate your skin. |
Do
not eat, drink or smoke while stripping fiber
strands.
Wear safety glasses or eye protection.
Strip fibers away and down, not towards your face.
Pick up broken fiber shards, and discard into
a safety bottle or onto an adhesive tape. |

is important to clean up any broken fiber pieces
before the technician leaves the workspace. While
the fiber technician is aware of the dangers of
the glass shards, the next person in the workspace
will most likely be unaware, and could be injured. |
